French journalists released

The Islamic Army in Iraq said it has freed two French journalists, Christian Chesnot and Georges Malbrunot. The pair were taken captive four months ago but have now been released and turned over to the French embassy in Baghdad.

US base in Mosul bombed?

A US base in the northern city of Mosul was the target of an 'explosion' earlier today.
The cause of the explosion is still unknown and although casualies have been reported, the number killed has not yet been confirmed.

*UPDATE Ansar al-Sunna have claimed that they carried out mortar attacks that have left at least 22 dead and 50 wounded.

**UPDATE Evidence now points to a suicide bomber attack.

Iraqi woman killed

An Iraqi woman was killed and three civilians wounded when a roadside bomb exploded between the cities of Samarra and Fallujah.

Three foreigners killed in Iraq

Four men travelling in a vehicle in Ashaki, south of the Sunni town of Samarra, came under gunfire after an ambush. Three of the men killed are believed to be non Iraqi's.


Talib Ibrahim killed

Talib Ibrahim al-Dahir, an Iraqi nuclear scientist was shot dead on a bridge in Baquba.
Masked gunmen opened fire on his vehicle as he drove to work. So far no one has claimed responsibility.


US Soldiers wounded

An Iraqi bomb has wounded five US soldiers and an Iraqi civilian just outside Hawija.
A suspect has been detained by US forces.


Hiyt hit

Six Iraqi 'civilians' have been killed following a US airstrike in the town of Hiyt, which lies about 170km west of Baghdad.
According to Aljazeera, women and children are reported to be among the dead.
